TikTok and Instagram soon to be integrated into Google Search?

Google is currently testing a new feature to integrate short videos posted on Instagram and TikTok with its mobile app and Google Discover.

Google and social networks is a long story of love ... but also of disenchantment. During the last two decades, the firm has indeed tried on multiple occasions to establish itself in this sector, without meeting the expected success.

Google+, Shoelace, Tablescape, Google Buzz, all services that ended up joining the cemetery of the research specialist.

TikTok and Instagram in Google and Google Discover

Despite these bitter failures, Google is still very interested in what is happening on these platforms and is proving it once again at through an experiment, to say the least, original.

As reported TechCrunch , the firm has indeed set up a whole new carousel for some of its users. Present both in its mobile application and on Google Discover, the latter consists of several tiles placed on a horizontal axis, tiles referring to short videos shared on TikTok and Instagram.

On the other hand, it would seem that only certain requests are concerned for the moment. By typing the term “packers” into the Google application, the latter can in some cases - and among users targeted by the test - display a carousel listing team videos shared on Instagram and TikTok.

A function under experimentation

If the user is interested, he can then tap on the video of his choice to access it. Note however that the link does not refer to themobile apps from Instagram and TikTok ... but to their web version.

In and of itself, it's no surprise that Google is conducting such tests. The firm has indeed taken a first step in this direction by integrating Twitter into its SERPs. Now, nothing says that this new function will be extended to all accounts. Google conducts many similar experiments each year and they are far from being accepted.
