Recently another writer from TechRadar pointed out that " When you drop a star "as an indication of the decline of the Simpsons, and it will receive no complaints from me. It offers a handful of other examples from seasons 9-12, and again, I agree: the episodes in question have yawning flaws. Personally, I would even say that the rot goes back even further, in season 8 'My Sister, My Sitter '.
That said, I would also say that the seasons of the Simpsons' golden age are the best seasons of any TV show anywhere, and that it is unfair to hold a season - even subsequent seasons of the Simpsons - to these high standards.
No, the seasons of the later Simpsons aren't necessarily great, and yes, you can easily pick a handful - even handfuls - that are downright bad. But there are so far around 226 full episodes of "the Golden Age (encompassing seasons 1-10) and 457 post-gold episodes. It's a huge chunk to ignore due to otherwise inconsistent late seasons, and some individual episodes are good enough to match the average quality of the Golden Age episodes.
Out of morbid curiosity, if nothing else, it's worth venturing beyond the thrilling descent of the 11-14 seasons toSee what's waiting for you on Disney Plus. Here are just ten of the wonderful episodes that the seasons of The Simpsons have to offer.
Behind the Laughter (season 12, episode 22)
Onseems to deceive the spirit of the list to load the seasons immediately after the golden age, after that, we will deepen the following seasons. 'Behind the laughter ' however, a fourth revolutionary documentary episode waCet is experimental and offers something really new.
It details the rise and fall of the family in a VH1-style pop documentary format, with the premise that the family is just a cast in Scripted Reality Show by Homer. Lisa got anti-aging medication, Homer got hooked on painkillers, Bart became a wild Hollywood kid ... The golden age was phenomenal, but it rarely took risks like this .
Trilogy of error (season 12, episode 18)
Another episode on on the outskirts of the golden age, here, before taking a leap into the much later years, 'Trilogy of Error ' stepped outside the usual comfort zone, just like Behind The Laughter. It tells us the story of Homer, then that of Lisa then that of Bart, who mingle throughout the episode. The inspiration seems to be the film Tom Tykwer Run Lola Run.
Rather than a standard timeline A and B, we see each plot taking place in turn, and it is only at the end that we see the whole picture. It’s an intelligent narration dotted with jokes and the best episode of season 12.
24 minutes (season 18, episode 21)
Jumping now into season 18, 24 minutes is a parody of 24 styles that even features a cameo by Kiefer Sutherland himself. Bart is Jack Bauer of it, with Lisa his assistant technician and Skinner who heads the CTU (Counter Truancy Unit).
The bullies have a stink bomb and plan to ruin the sale of school pastries. Can Bauer Bart find and stop them in time? Is there a traitor among them? He does a great job playing with the conventions of 24, while keeping the humor and detailed characterization of the Simpsons .
Eternal Moonshine of The Simpson Mind (season 19, episode 9)
This episode parodies parts of Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, The Game and Memento to provide one of the most exciting episodes of the Simpsons canon. Homer wakes up one morning to find the house empty, with no recollection of what happened.
After retracing his steps at Moe's, straighten out one of the Forget plansMe Shot de Moe helps her to remember. With only brief bits from the night before becoming clear, Homer tries to put it all together before it's too late.
Eeny Teeny Maya Moe (season 20, episode 16)
The episodes of Moe become fairly frequent from season 15 or more , and 'Eeny TeenyMaya Moe ' is the choice of the group. He presents a romance for Moe, after meeting Maya online. She is a small person, and their relationship is built naturally with zero tasteless jokes, although Moe is reluctant for her friends to meet Maya, fearing that they will laugh at her.
It builds Moe's character well and with real heart, when he wonders "how a little woman can make her feel so great." Unfortunately, he lets himself go with an ending that favors the status quo on character development, a persistent problem with the Simpsons' approach to storytelling. On top of that, this one has an almost vintage plating.
The Squirt & The Whale (season 21, episode 19)
Some post-season 10 episodes age Lisa's maturity to past plausibility, or make her unnecessarily mean, or both. 'The Squirt & The Whale ', however, ranks as one of the best episodes from Lisa in the series to tap into the greatest elements of the character.
He sees her sensitive and optimistic side in full screen, while she is desperately trying to save a stranded whale in Springfield. Calling the whale Bluella, Lisa stays by her all day and all night, keeping her safe while the city mobilizes to help the poor whales.
Past holidays of the future (season 23, episode 9)
This episode is technically not canon, although that doesn’t prevent it From continuing season 16 'Future Drama ', Bart, Lisa and Maggie are all adults at home for Christmas.
The episode revolves mainly around the theme of Maggie is pregnant with her first child, while Bart has trouble connecting with her 10-year-old sons and Lisa feels pushed by her teenage daughter. learning from Homer and Lisa de Marge, the whole family gets closer during the holidays.
As with any futuristic episode full of references to pop culture, some of the prediction jokes do not arise particularly, but other than that, it's atimeless story of love and friendliness at Christmas.
Even if season 6 'Lisa ' s Wedding 'remains the champion of future episodes of The Simpsons ...
Brick Like Me (season 25, épis ode 20)
It's true: the Simpsons did an episode of Lego. You may not need anything else to sell yourself by watching this one on Disney Plus, but 'Brick Like Me ' has a lot more to offer than a cheap gadget. Like the highlights of the golden age 'Lisa The Iconoclast ', 'Lisa The Greek ' and the gem of season 12 'HOMR ', this speaks to the deep bond between a father and her daughter.
It is built around the relationship of Homer and Lisa, and contains tons of Lego references and great gags alongside a very sweet story. There are similarities to The Lego Movie, the episode of which even winks - but there is more than enough originality here to make it a bitch.
Halloween of Horror (season 27, episode 4)
The Treehouse of Horror episodes remain landmark episodes of any Simpsons season, even if these days they often fall back on parodies of lazy movies. In season 27, however, while the producers have kept a Treehouse episode, they also added 'Halloween of Horror', and went out of their comfort zone tooffer a fantastic and scary treat.
This revolves around Lisa panicking in a haunted theme park, forcing her and Homer to stay home for Halloween. When 742 Evergreen Terrace is hit by invaders, the fears become real.
If this happens to you, check out 'Thanksgiving of Horror' when season 31 also arrives at Disney Plus. , which will probably happen at the end of summer.
Barthood (season 27, episode 9)
'Barthood ' is a truly phenomenal episode of The Simpsons, tied for the 61st best episode of all time on IMDb with the classics Marge Be Not Proud and I Love Lisa. consider that modern episodes are generally classified more severely.
A loose parody of Boyhood, the episode details Bart's life from early childhood to early 20s, taking a new and more serious look about his relationship with Homer. It also rebuilt Bart's connection with his grandpa into something touching and heartbreaking. There are a few laughs here, of course, but you have to look at this to see how good he is emotional.ble must for any Simpsons fan.
