After Apple, Google wants to force to go through its payment system on Android, with a commission of 30%

Apple in the headlines in his legal fight against Epic Games . The studio behind Fortnite accuses the Cupertino company of a dominant position, while the App Store is the only store allowed on iOS, and a mandatory commission of 30%. Epic Games will therefore have offered its own payment system in the famous Battle Royale, causing its ban - as well as its developer account. The company then decided to file a complaint against Apple, and surrounded itself with certain allies among which Facebook , Tinder or Spotify. On Google's side, the situation is different.

Because Android does not force developers to go through its payment system, which can avoid the 30% commission.

Android wants to force the commission of 30% with its payment system

While Apple is denounced by several digital giants by forcing the use of its payment system, and a commission of 30%, Android has always been apart. But now that is ancient history. Google, which provides the operating system, wants developerss go through its payment system, thus granting itself a commission of 30%, too.

Applications that go through the Play Store, its virtual store, will therefore pay the commission of 30%. In a statement, Google explains that "for developers who want to distribute their apps on the Play Store, our philosophy has always been that they go through the online store payment system for in-app purchases." The Mountain View firm specifies “working with our partners to make these rules heard and to ensure that they are applied in a fair and reasonable way.

That the users of Google smartphones rest assured, it will always be possible to download the applications in other virtual stores. But for those downloaded from the Play Store, the 30% commission will be applied , forssant therefore the developers to offer higher prices.

Epic Games had drawn the wrath of Apple by offering, on Fortnite iOS, a pack of V-Bucks with its payment system, at 7.99 euros, against 9.99 euros for that of Apple, highlighting this big difference in price justified by the commission.
