How to add additional user profile fields in WordPress record

Do you want the option to add new profile fields when users register on your WordPress site?

You may want to allow users to submit their social media profiles. Or you might want to ask them to submit their work phone number during inion. All of this can be done by adding additional profile fields.

In this article, we will show how to add additional user profile fields in WordPress record.

Method 1. Add custom user profile fields using the Advanced Custom Fields plugin

The best way to add additional user profile fields in WordPress is to use the Advanced Custom Fields Plug-in .

First, you need to install and activate the Advanced Custom plugin Fields For more details see our step by step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin .

After installing and activating it, go to Custom fields» Add new and give your name a name. new field.

We call this example 'Twitter Handle ' since we are setting up a custom field to add a Twitter username. However, you can give it any name you want.

Then click on the "Add Field " button and you will see it open to configure your new field. Here is our examplecustomization.

The 'Field Label ' is the name of your field, which helps you organize your fields.

The 'Field Name ' is automatically filled in as depending on the name you give your field, but you can change it to be whatever you want.

The 'Field Type ' is where you can select the type of 'information you wish to submit.

You can choose many options such as email address, number, text box, url, password, etc.

The "Required? " area can be enabled or disabled. If you want to force anyone who registers to fill out this field, you will need to toggle the required button where it says "Yes ".

Finally, the "Placeholder text " is what you "ll put in the field to show your users as an example when they inion. We used " @ sample_username ".

The next step is to set the location for this profile field.

You will need to scroll down to the page.'to the "Location " box and be sure to select "User role " from the drop-down menu.

On the far right, the 'All ' option simply means all users who register.

But if you wanted this rule to only apply to some user roles such as Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributorr or Subscriber, then you can create that selection here.

Next, scroll down to the settings area. Make sure the "Active " field is set to "Yes ", then click "Publish " in the upper right corner to save this field.

In the Style section, make sure to select 'Seamless (not metabox) 'to prevent the name of this field from appearing on your inion page.

Since we have already given instructions for sending the Twitter handle, you don't want this to appear. 'he apappear several times in the field as it makes it seem crowded.

Finally, you can see all your fields by going to Custom fields »Ps field group .

Now is the time to see how this is displayed on your inion page. The default URL for registration is at 'yoursite.com/wp-login.php? Action = register. '

Method 2. Add an additional user profile Fields with fieldsextra profile ps

This method allows you to easily add extra fields to user profiles and user inion form in WordPress. It's a little less flexible, but it gets the job done.

First of all you need to install and activate the Additional profile fields plug-in . If you don't know how to do this, check out our full guide at how to install a WordPress plugin .

Once the plugin is activated, it's time to create additional user profile fields to use on your inion forms.

We will create a phone number fielde as an example, but you can create as many of these fields as you want.

First, navigate to your Page Additional Profile Fields »Add New . We create a field for users to submit their phone number.

You will see that we have named the field "Phone number " and selected "Phone number " from the drop-down menu.

In the properties of the field, we check all the boxes for the user level 'Author ' because weLet's show this field when someone registers as an author.

Finally, check the box to make the field mandatory if you want them to fill in their phone number during login.

Scroll down until you get this:

Make sure this box is checked so that the field appears in your inion form. Remember to click on the "Save changes " button at the bottom before proceeding any further.

When you create these fields, youcan see them when you navigate to your Additional Profile Fields »Add New page:

Now you 'I want to go to your WordPress dashboard to change some settings for new inions.

Go to the Settings »General page of your WordPress admin area, then check the opt-in box so everyone can sign up. 'register.

You will need to make sure that the default role is set to the role for which you have aadded additional fields.

This way you can control the level of access for new users, and this will force the inion form to display the fields you selected previously in this tutorial.
