Anti-Pornhub petition surpassed 1.5 million signatures

Pornhub doesn't just have fans and Laila Mickelwait is one of its biggest detractors. Earlier this year, following an accusatory article published by the BBC, the latter launched a petition on Change.org calling for the shutdown of the adult video platform. She has just just passed the 1.5 million signature mark.

It all started with an article published by the prestigious BBC, article in which our colleagues evoked the story of a teenage girl victim of despicable rape when she was not more than fourteen years old.

While the latter was returning home, two men had indeed kidnapped her and then took her to an isolated house on the outskirts of the city.

There, the teenager was raped by the two men for a dozen hours, while a third attacker filmed the whole scene. Then, the kidnappers l 'had released and the latter had finally found the way to herhome.

A few months later, when she was trying to resume her normal life, an acquaintance had contacted her to reveal that a video was there. showing being raped circulated on MySpace. After investigating, the teenager had come to realize that her attackers had uploaded several videos of the rape on Pornhub.

The teenager then contacted the platform, which did not belonged at the time not to Mindgeek, in order to request the removal of these videos. No one had responded to his request, however. Running out of solution, she pretended to be a lawyer. The videos were subsequently taken out of service.

She never spoke about her story, but everything changed at the start of the year when she felt the need to go back over what was probably the most traumatic event of his life. The teenager turned woman told her story on her blog, and it was then picked up by the BBC.

As you might expect, the article by our colleagues did not go unnoticed and it has thus aroused many reactions on the web.

Laila Mickelwait, for her part, was shocked to read the story of the young woman and she therefore launched a petition on Change.org asking for nothing less than the closure of the service. The call was heard and signatures quickly began to flow. The milestone of five hundred thousand signatures was thus passed in the space of a few weeks, as well as that of one million signatures. And now the petition has reached a new level, namely that of1.5 million signatures.

But Internet users are not the only ones taking a close interest in Pornhub. Several more official voices were also heard. Ben Sasse, a US senator, wrote a letter to the attorney general asking him to initiate an investigation into Mindgeek. Same thing in Canada, where several deputies have done the same.

For his part, the principal concerned obviously deplores what happened to this young woman, but he also recalls that the platform did not belong to him at the time of the facts. Mindgeek further revealed that it has put in place several safeguards to prevent such a situation from reoccurring and assuresalso show the most extreme vigilance.

This has not, it seems, calmed its detractors.
