For ten years now the French studio Dontnod Entertainment has shown us that“They have a perfect command of narrative games aimed at dealing with many sensitive topics in a remarkable way. From the first Life is Strange in 2015 which targeted school bullying or psychological disorders that can lead to suicide through the second opus, which mainly targeted racism and corruption.
Dontnod Entertainment succeeds in a way very ingenious in surprising us, moving us and raising our awareness. With Tell Me Why, the studio is once again dealing with a sensitive subject with tolerance, self-acceptance, transidentity. For the first time in a video game, the main character is transgender and Dontnod once again manages to break the rules. Will this have as much impact as in their previous productions? We can see that right away!
" Sayme why ?
Tell Me Why takes us into the life of Alyson and Tyler Ronan, a twin brother and sister who reunite after a ten-year long separation. The story takes place in a small town in Alaska, United States, and we are going to witness the reunion of the brother and sister. They will travel through their memories by returning to their old home, where they lost their mother. But during this adventure, Alyson and Tyler realize that they are linked by a strange bond. They can thus communicate by thought and can also recall their childhood memories.
It is by browsing their past that Alyson and Tyler will bring to the surface many areas shadows of their childhood, concerning their mother, but also the friends and the entourage of their family. The brother and sister therefore set off in search of truth and answers that will not always be easy to accept and take.
- The Alyson / Tyler relationship
- The atmosphere, the narration, the staging worthy of Dontnod
- The music and the different themes of the game
- The system of memories bytagged
- Important topics approached in a very intelligent way
We like less
- Some small bugs and falling framerates
- Maybe a little too short life level
