Firefox Fenix is here. Mozilla's mobile web browser version 79 is currently being deployed on Android smartphones. ApAfter more than a year of testing, this major update inaugurates many new features, including a new, completely redesigned interface.
Among other new features, Firefox is bringing a new rendering engine, GeckoView, supposed to offer better performance, a redesigned tab manager, the ability to launch a voice search from the address bar, or even enhanced protection against tracking. Here's a quick overview of what's new in Firefox 79 for Android.

A more modern and flexible interface
When Firefox 79 is opened for the first time on Android, long-time users will immediately notice a significant change. The address bar, once positioned at the top of the browser, is nownow grafted at the bottom.
This positioning is actually customizable since it is possible, from the browser's personalization parameters, to position this toolbar at the top or in bottom.
The other big change is on the tab manager side. Now, it displays a panel on half of the screen, from which it is possible to switch from one page to another, or even activate private browsing mode.
Another new feature is the arrival of the Collections. The user has the possibility to save offline the contents of the tabs in groups, the famous Collections, to read them later offline.
Stronger tracking protection, but fewer extensions supported
The arrival of Firefox 79 is also an opportunity for Mozilla to strengthen protection against tracking on its mobile web browser.By default, the option is now enabled on Strict to block more unwanted content.
Unfortunately, thisnew version regresses on a point that until now was acclaimed by users: its ability to work with the thousands of extensions available in its catalog. In Firefox 79, it is currently only possible to install nine handpicked extensions:
- uBlock Origin
- Dark Reader
- HTTPS Everywhere
- Privacy Badger
- NoScript Security Suite
- Decentraleyes
- Search by image
- YouTube High Definition
- Privacy Possum
The drastic reduction extension catalog could only be temporary, however. should be supported very soon.
The deployment of Firefox 79 is underway on the Play Store, its arrival should be done little by littlet among all users in the coming days. If you don't want to wait, it is always possible to proceed with a manual installation of the application by directly downloading its installation file.
